Really the issue just now is use value, though in a minute it will also start to touch on the proletariat and bare life cuz those are other things I’ve been thinking about. I just started Agnes Heller’s The Theory of Need in Marx. I suspect, if the introduction is any indication, that it will take a turn or turns which I won’t like. In the three or so pages of the actual book so far, though, there’s much that I like. (more…)

… is not quite nostalgia?
Colin and I talked on the phone recently, talked about music. He’d recently gotten a copy of the (International) Noise Conspiracy’s fine album “Armed Love.” The (I)NC was a formative part of my intellectual life in late adolescence/early adulthood, just as Bad Religion and Fugazi were in early- and mid-adolescence. A number of the books I read which had a huge impact on me were directly because the (I)NC recommended them in the liner notes for “Good Morning, Changing Weather” and it’s through those liner notes that I found about aut-op-sy, through which I met Angela, David Geo, John, Jon, Steve, folk from what would become the Free Association and G-O, and many others.
