Color me livejournal…. My August hasn’t quite been what Iwould call an august occasion, but it has been chock full of stuff, including many notes taken on books while on plains and beaches and buses and hotel rooms, all of which I plan to type up eventually. Among the things that happened this August, centered around me: I turned 28 and my blog turned 1. I went to Mexico briefly and saw an ENORMOUS SCARY SPIDER and some lovely bits of ocean and realized that my family and the time I lived in Chicago kind of spoiled me on Mexican food - the food in Mexico was good but not that good compared El Cid on Kedzie or compared to, say, my great grandma’s tamales (or, my wife says in a fit of delightful flattery, even compared to my own enchiladas and chilaquiles). I saw some beloved old friends in the short time before they move(d) out of the country. I read most of EP Thompson’s enormous book but postponed the end of the book till after the end of my travels. I gave a talk and got drunk in a hotel bar. I visited my dad and one of my brothers. I did a ton of IWW stuff early in the month, the results of which will be in the GOB in case any FWs read this site (vote yes on the ODFC proposal!), and I got my first sunburn in a very long time - during my first experience kayaking - including on the distressingly … exposed bit at the top rear quadrant of my head. I also spent about a gazillion dollars on auto parts so my dad could put my car in better working order, and I got rather suddenly interested in formal logic for the first time since, well, ever. Safe as houses.
